Placement of chess pieces
Each piece must be placed inside a square.
IN THE FIRST ROW: At the two ends are the two rooks nest to them are the knights and next to the knights are the bishops. Place the king and queen at the center. (The queen must be placed in the square that is the same color she is.)
IN THE SECOND ROW: All the pawns are placed here.
How to move the pieces
The pieces must always stay in the boxes and can never be placed between two spaces. With the exception of the knight,they cannot pass through spaces that are occupied by other pieces. They cannot land on spaces that are occupied by a piece on their team. If a piece land on a space occupied by a member o the opposing team,the player ''wins'' the piece and takes it of the board. You can win any piece but the king.
King: The king can move in all directions (horizontally,vertically, and diagonally), but the king can move only one square per turn. When the king is trapped and cannot move,it is ''check'' and must free itself .If the king cannot free itself ,this is called ''checkmate'' and the game is over.
Queen: The queen can move in all directions (horizontally,vertically, and diagonally) as many squares as it likes, but it cannot go in more than one direction per turn.
Rook: The rook can move horizontally or vertically (up,down,left or right) as many spaces as it likes.
Bishop: The bishop can move only diagonally and it can move as many spaces as it likes.
Knight: The knight is the only piece that can jump over other pieces. It moves in an ''L'' shape: two spaces (up/down,right/left) and then one space over, perpendicularly (left or right, up or down).
Pawns: The pawn can move only forward and only one space at a time. However,the first time a pawn moves, it can move two spaces. The space it lands on must be free, otherwise it is won by the opponent. The pawns can only move diagonally if it is winning a piece.
To win the game, you need to get your opponent's king in check mate.
